The Chatham Community Players will present a special show for children during the town’s Fishawack Festival on Saturday, June 12 at 11:30 am and at 1:30 pm at the Chatham Playhouse located at 23 North Passaic Ave. Chatham, NJ
New York Times Bestselling Author/Illustrator, Michael Rex, will present an interactive reading with a “Special Guest,” “Furious George Goes Bananas: A Primate Parody.” Copies will be available for purchase and signing. The show will also feature folk music and storytelling by New Jersey’s mother/son duo, Jeslyn Wheeless and Ben Wheeless.
Michael Rex has written and illustrated over 25 books for children, including the NY Times #1 Bestseller "Goodnight Goon" and its follow-up, "The Runaway Mummy," also a Times Bestseller. “Furious George Goes Bananas: A Primate Parody” is a parody of the classic “Curious George” series, and pokes fun at the treatment of the "curious little monkey" in those books. Mr. Rex grew up in Chatham and now lives in the Bronx with his wife and his two boys, Declan 5½ and Gavin 4. He just completed his MSE degree (Master of Science in Education).
Jeslyn Wheeless performs in schools, libraries, park settings, museums, churches, and clubs, for audiences of all ages. She has been a featured storyteller in New York’s Central Park, the New Jersey Storytelling Festival, and First Night Celebrations. Her first recording, “Hoot Owl Blues: Tales and Tunes to Conjure Up a Mood,” won a major national award, being named to the American Library Association’s Notable Children’s Recordings for the Year 2000. Her large repertoire includes folktales and songs that share the joy, wonder, and often humor from all over the world. Ben is an outstanding lead guitarist and rapper (!), performing previously with the London band, Captain Kick and the Cowboy Ramblers, when he was earning his BA at the University of London.
